GRAND RAPIDS -- Virginia Hines took an aged book titled "Good English" out of her bag to show her friend the find.
"I have a collection of 100 years of textbooks," said Hines, an education professor at Ferris State University in Big Rapids. "I have textbooks from the 1860s to contemporary times."
Hines found the addition to her collection Saturday at the Grand Rapids Antiques Market, held for the first time at DeVos Place convention center downtown.
With 72 booths representing more than 150 dealers and attendance logged at 2,500 by mid-Saturday, it looked like a success. "This is fantastic," organizer and antique dealer Cecily Near said. "I'm blown away. The quality of the merchandise that the dealers brought is unbelievable."
"I think it has potential," said Matthew Gosch, who traveled from North Tonawanda, N.Y., with his collection of rustic furniture and camp accessories. "I like the venue, and it has good traffic."
Nance Darrow of Akron, Ohio, getting a breather from steady customers, also was pleased.
"I do one to two shows a month," Darrow said. "This is a brisk crowd." |

A new & exciting addition to the antiques show scene is the delightful Grand Rapids Antiques Market held at the DeVos Place Ballroom in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.
This show is proving to be just what the doctor ordered for a gloomy mid-winter January weekend. We attended on Saturday and quickly found delighted customers and dealers pleased with sales and purchases, along with easy access and a beautiful venue.
The variety was wide and could readily satisfy both high and lower end shoppers, with activities including workshops, lectures, and free appraisals, even children’s activities for the wee ones!

“I just wanted to thank you for assembling such a terrific show on Saturday. Warren and I were shocked to see the incredible turnout of show-goers. They had a really positive and upbeat attitude about the show and seemed happy to be there. Several commented that Grand Rapids really “needed a good show like this. We’re excited to be part of it! Thanks again for your professional show management and for getting all the PR out about it. You’ve created a great new antiques show for the state! That’s good for our economy, good for the dealers, and good for the show-goers who found good buys. I’m hoping the reviews that come out and the word-of-mouth about the show from show-goers makes the next show event better! Thanks again.”
Gail Jensen Summers - Treasures in Time
